Project Proposal: Line of Scrimmage

I want to be aware of the limited physical distance between myself and my partner living within the same apartment. We have two rooms (our bedroom and a main room) and we often try to work in separate rooms during the day. If one of us (through a grocery trip or a food pick up) ends up getting COVID, the other will be in the difficult position of continuing to work and having to provide care. The best way to do this will be to divide the apartment into two parts.

I think Teachable Machine is a good way to approach this. I am thinking about getting a camera into both of the rooms and using TM to figure out what the state of the apartment is. I think it has to be the cameras on my laptop and phone, and both can communicate with a server on glitch, and that can be the source of truth for whatever display solution I end up with.

I don’t have a lot of supplies. I imagine using a projector to literally show a line on our floor, that moves and twists to reflect where we have both been during the day. Maybe it colors areas based on how long we’ve been there or not been there, and creates a kind of flexible border. But I don’t have a projector.

I do have some Arduinos and some LEDs. I’m less interested in giving each room a number and a changing total via LED, but maybe that makes the most sense. Or we can both wear an Arduino and a collection of LEDs but positional stuff gets complicated there too.

I’m feeling a little stuck!
